The Indian Dietetic Association was founded in 1962 by Prof. Kalyan Bagchi and Dr. C. Gopalan as President in Kolkata. The association is affiliated to the International congress of Dietetics (ICDA) since 1975 and is also a member of Asian Federation of Dietetic Associations (AFDA).
The Indian Dietetic Association- Mumbai Chapter is the largest chapter in the Indian Dietetic Association with a pool of 2000 Life Members, over 800 student members and 6 Associate Members. Under the able guidance of president Ms Naaznin Husein and Vice President Ms Zamrud Patel, the chapter has spearheaded many successful CME’s and outreach programs every year. The Indian Dietetic Association also holds a accreditation examination for registration of qualified dietitians as “Registered Dietitians” every year.
It is also one of the most active chapters of IDA and the chapter has collaborated with various organizations like Times of India and Mumbai Mirror to conduct community outreach programs for healthier living via the Equal Streets, Girls Soccer League programs. With regards to community outreach programs, the prime focus is on educating about the knowledge on right nutrition and spreading awareness through campaigns, lectures sessions , counseling services. Right from Paediatric Nutrition to Geriatric Nutrition , from Preventive to Therapeutic Nutrition , IDA play an important role in dealing with communicable as well as no-communicable diseases too. IDA , strongly believes in holistic approach in all aspects of nutrition and dietetics.
The Association of Food Scientists and Technologists (India) Mumbai Chapter was established in 1980, and is one of the biggest chapter of AFST (I) with 400+ food scientists and technologists members in and around Mumbai.
The major objective is to stimulate and advance knowledge base on various aspects of Food Science and Technology by organizing National and International Conferences and bringing out technical publications including prestigious AFST (I) Mumbai chapter News Letter.
